Custom Made Chair Cover

UV & Waterproof 200gsm solution-dyed polyester
Made to Measure Cut to your exact dimensions
Made in 3 Weeks Express options available
Australia-Wide Delivery Tracked courier to every state

Outdoor chairs come in too many shapes and sizes for a single standard cover to fit them all well.

Your cover is made from 200gsm solution-dyed polyester that blocks UV and sheds rain without any surface coating that can crack or peel.

Generic chair covers are designed for the most common shapes and rarely fit chairs with tall backs, wide armrests, or non-standard seat depths.

A cover made to your exact width, depth, and height fits flush and stays in place rather than billowing around or leaving part of the chair exposed.

Width is measured from the outside edge of one armrest to the outside edge of the other, or seat width if the chair has no armrests. Depth is front to back including any leg protrusion beyond the seat. Height is from the ground to the top of the chair back.

Measuring guidelines

  • Width is from outside armrest edge to outside armrest edge, or seat width for armless chairs.
  • Depth is from the frontmost point of the chair to the backmost point, including leg protrusion.
  • Height is from the ground to the highest point of the chair back.
  • Measure the chair as you will store it, with or without cushions depending on your preference.

Cover features

  • A clean, fabric-style outer face that suits a furnished outdoor space rather than the tarpaulin look you get from budget covers.
  • Six webbing tie-down points spaced around the base so the cover stays put when the wind picks up.
  • For furniture without legs to anchor to, an elastic perimeter can be sewn around the bottom edge instead. Just request this when placing your order.
  • A polyurethane waterproof layer bonded to the underside that holds up under UV exposure without flaking or breaking down.
  • Double-folded, twice-stitched seams that hide the raw edge of the fabric and keep stitch lines protected from water ingress.
  • No PVC anywhere in the construction, which means no cracking or splitting along the fold lines after a season or two of sun.
  • Solution-dyed polyester face fabric. Colour runs all the way through every fibre, so fading is dramatically reduced under harsh Australian sun.
  • A drawstring carry bag is included for storing the cover when guests are over or during the warmer months.
  • Light enough that one person can fit and remove it without help.
  • Backed by a warranty against premature fading and loss of waterproofing.
Please review your measurements carefully before submitting. Each cover is cut to the dimensions you provide, so we are unable to offer change-of-mind returns or cancel an order once production has begun.

Built to fit, not adapted to suit

Standard chair covers are made to fit the most common chair proportions, which means anything outside that range ends up with a cover that bunches at the sides or exposes the top of the back. Your cover is cut to your measurements so it fits your chair, not a chair someone else designed around.

One material, one quality, one price tier

Every cover we make uses the same 200gsm solution-dyed polyester. The dye goes all the way through the fibre, so it does not fade unevenly or peel the way surface-coated covers can after a few seasons in Australian sun. It is UV-stable, waterproof, and built for year-round outdoor use.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about ordering a custom outdoor chair cover.

How do I measure a chair with armrests versus one without?

For a chair with armrests, measure from the outside edge of the left armrest to the outside edge of the right armrest. This is your width. For a chair without armrests, measure the width of the seat frame from outside edge to outside edge. The cover needs to slip over the widest point of the chair, so always measure the broadest part.

Does the cover go over the legs?

Yes. The cover drops from the top of the chair back all the way to the ground, enclosing the seat, back, and legs. Your height measurement from the ground to the top of the chair back determines how long the cover is. This protects the whole chair including the legs and any crossbars.

Can I leave cushions on the chair under the cover?

Yes, you can. If you plan to leave cushions on, measure the chair with the cushions in place because they will add to the width and depth. If you remove cushions before covering the chair, measure without them. Either approach works, but the measurements need to match how you will actually use the cover.

My chairs have unusually tall backs. Will this still work?

Yes. You supply the height measurement and we cut to that. Whether your chair back is 80cm or 140cm tall, the cover is made to your measurement. This is the main advantage of a custom cover for chairs with tall, statement backs that generic covers simply cannot reach.

Can I order covers for a set of four or six chairs?

Yes. Each cover is priced individually and you can order as many as you need. If all your chairs are the same model, they will likely have the same dimensions and you order multiple covers from the same measurements. If your chairs vary slightly, measure each one and order individually. Contact us if you want to discuss a bulk order for a larger set.

Custom Made Outdoor Chair Covers — The Australian Owner's Complete Guide

5 min read Updated 2025 Custom Cover Company

A good outdoor chair is worth protecting. Whether it is a timber slat chair, a powder-coated aluminium frame, a woven rattan piece, or a moulded plastic garden chair, prolonged UV exposure fades, weakens, and eventually destroys the material. A well-fitting cover is one of the cheapest ways to extend the life of furniture that costs considerably more to replace.

The problem with standard chair covers is that chairs are not standard. Back heights, seat depths, armrest widths, and leg configurations vary enormously between brands and styles. This guide explains how to take three straightforward measurements from your chair and what to expect from a cover made to those numbers.

Width

Width is the broadest horizontal measurement of your chair. For chairs with armrests, measure from the outside edge of the left armrest to the outside edge of the right armrest. Do not measure the seat. The armrests are almost always wider than the seat and the cover needs to clear them. For chairs without armrests, measure the outer width of the seat frame from edge to edge.

If your chair has any decorative elements or hardware that protrude beyond the main frame, include those in your width measurement. The cover needs to slip over the widest point without catching.

Depth

Depth is the front-to-back measurement. Stand to one side of the chair and measure from the frontmost point to the backmost point. On most chairs this is from the front edge of the seat or front legs to the back legs or rear of the back frame. Some chairs have legs that splay outward, which can make the leg footprint deeper than the seat itself. If the legs protrude behind the seat back, measure to the rear of the legs.

Include any ground-level crossbars or stretchers in your depth measurement if they extend beyond the main frame footprint.

Height

Height is from the ground to the top of the chair back. Stand a tape measure vertically beside the chair and measure from the floor to the highest point of the backrest. On chairs with a curved or arched back, measure to the highest point of the arch. On chairs with a straight top rail, measure to the top of that rail.

This measurement determines how long the cover is. The cover drops from the top of the chair back and closes at the ground, so an accurate height keeps the hem in the right place.

The material

All our covers are made from 200gsm solution-dyed polyester. At this weight the fabric is substantial enough to hold its shape on a single chair without being too heavy to handle easily. It drapes well over a standard chair frame and the hem sits close to the ground without needing weights or ties in normal conditions.

The solution-dyed construction means the colour is part of the fibre rather than a surface treatment. Many cheaper outdoor covers look fine when new but develop patchy fading or surface cracking after a couple of Australian summers. Solution-dyed fabric ages more evenly and stays flexible through heat and UV exposure rather than becoming brittle.

The fabric is waterproof for normal outdoor rain. Water beads and runs off the surface. In very heavy, driving rain some moisture may find its way through seams, particularly if the cover is under sustained pressure. For most residential use this is not an issue. If you leave chairs permanently outdoors through a wet season, a veranda or awning overhead will extend the life of both the cover and the chair.

Care

Wipe the cover down with a damp cloth for routine cleaning. For bird droppings or dirt that has dried on, use mild soap and a soft brush and rinse well with the hose. Let the cover air-dry completely before putting it back on the chair or storing it. Do not machine wash or tumble dry.

Store unused covers folded loosely in a cool, dry place out of direct sun. If you rotate covers through a set of chairs, keeping the spare covers out of UV when not in use will significantly extend how long they last. A single chair cover used every day will naturally show more wear than one that alternates with another, but with routine care both should give you several years of use.
