Custom Made Sun Lounge Cover

UV & Waterproof 200gsm solution-dyed polyester
Made to Measure Cut to your exact dimensions
Made in 3 Weeks Express options available
Australia-Wide Delivery Tracked courier to every state

Protect your sun lounge or pool lounger with a cover that fits the actual dimensions of your piece — length, width, and height — rather than a generic size that never quite works.

Each cover is made from 200gsm solution-dyed polyester with a waterproof undercoating that keeps rain, UV, and debris off the frame and cushions.

Standard sun lounge covers come in a small number of fixed sizes. Most loungers sit between two of them, leaving the cover either too short at the ends or loose enough to pool water and let weather in at the sides.

A custom-made cover fits cleanly from end to end and seals at the base, keeping the cushions dry and the frame protected whether it is left poolside overnight or stored for the whole off-season.

Step 01 Enter Your Measurements

Measure the full length from one end to the other including the headrest. Measure width at the widest point of the seat. For height, measure from the ground to the top of the backrest with it in the upright position, or in the position you normally store the lounger. Do not add extra centimetres — the correct ease is already built into the pattern.

Measuring guidelines

  • Measure the full length of the sun lounge from the very end of the footrest to the top of the headrest section. Include any fixed armrests that extend beyond the frame length.
  • Measure the width at the widest point of the seat. On most sun lounges this is consistent along the length, but some models are wider at the shoulder end than the foot end — use the larger measurement.
  • Measure height from the ground to the top of the backrest. If the back adjusts, measure with it in the upright position or in the position you normally leave it when storing the lounger.
  • Submit the actual dimensions. Do not add extra centimetres — the correct ease for a firm, protective fit is already built into the pattern.

Cover features

  • A clean, fabric-style outer face that suits a furnished outdoor space rather than the tarpaulin look you get from budget covers.
  • Six webbing tie-down points spaced around the base so the cover stays put when the wind picks up.
  • For furniture without legs to anchor to, an elastic perimeter can be sewn around the bottom edge instead. Just request this when placing your order.
  • A polyurethane waterproof layer bonded to the underside that holds up under UV exposure without flaking or breaking down.
  • Double-folded, twice-stitched seams that hide the raw edge of the fabric and keep stitch lines protected from water ingress.
  • No PVC anywhere in the construction, which means no cracking or splitting along the fold lines after a season or two of sun.
  • Solution-dyed polyester face fabric. Colour runs all the way through every fibre, so fading is dramatically reduced under harsh Australian sun.
  • A drawstring carry bag is included for storing the cover when guests are over or during the warmer months.
  • Light enough that one person can fit and remove it without help.
  • Backed by a warranty against premature fading and loss of waterproofing.
Please review your measurements carefully before submitting. Each cover is cut to the dimensions you provide, so we are unable to offer change-of-mind returns or cancel an order once production has begun.

Built to fit, not adapted to suit

Sun lounges vary considerably in length, width, and backrest height from brand to brand. Standard covers are made to suit the most common sizes and leave everything else as a compromise. A custom-made cover is cut to your exact dimensions, which means it sits flat on the frame, does not gather at the sides, and does not leave the footrest or headrest exposed to the weather.

One material, one quality, one price tier

Every cover we make uses the same 200gsm solution-dyed polyester with a flexible polyurethane waterproof undercoating and UV stabilisation throughout. No cheap tier, no premium upgrade. A sun lounge cover built to this spec will outlast several seasons of full outdoor exposure, including the intense UV and heavy summer rain that destroys lesser materials quickly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about ordering a custom sun lounge cover.

My sun lounge has an adjustable backrest. Which position do I measure height in?

Measure with the backrest in the position you normally leave it when the lounger is stored or not in use. If you store it flat, measure the height from the ground to the top of the frame in the flat position. The cover is made to fit the lounger as it sits, not every possible recline angle.

Should I put the cover on with the cushions on or off?

Either works, but covering the cushions in place gives you better protection and saves you from finding somewhere dry to store them separately. The cover is made to fit the whole lounger including a standard cushion depth. If your cushions are unusually thick, mention this in the order notes so we can account for it.

My sun lounge has wheels. Will the cover work with wheels on?

Yes. The wheels sit at the base of the frame and do not affect the length, width, or height measurements. The cover will sit at ground level and the wheels will be underneath it, which is fine.

Can I leave the cover on poolside when it rains?

Yes. The polyurethane waterproof undercoating is designed for exactly that. Rain sheets off the top surface rather than soaking through. A fitted cover with good contact at the sides and base is far more effective at keeping rain out than a loose one.

How do I prevent mould or mildew building up under the cover?

Make sure the lounger is dry before you put the cover on after it has been wet. The cover is waterproof from outside, but if moisture is trapped underneath at time of covering it can build up. If the lounger has been used or rained on, let it air for an hour or so before covering. Also lift the cover briefly after extended periods of humid weather to let any condensation escape.

Custom Made Sun Lounge Covers — The Australian Owner's Complete Guide

7 min read Updated 2025 Custom Cover Company

Pool loungers and sun beds take more weather punishment than almost any other piece of outdoor furniture. They sit in direct sun, get rained on, and are usually left outside for the whole season. The cushions are expensive to replace and the frames corrode or fade faster without protection. A well-fitted cover is one of the most practical investments you can make for a poolside setup.

Why sun lounge covers are harder to get right than they look

The profile of a sun lounge is deceptively simple. It is essentially a flat rectangle. But sun lounges come in lengths from around 155 cm up to 210 cm and widths from 60 cm to 90 cm, and the combinations between brands are nearly endless. Standard covers are made in three or four sizes, which means most loungers fall between two of them.

A cover that is too long will drape onto the ground at one or both ends, where it will sit in poolside water and break down. A cover that is too wide will not close securely at the base and will let rain in underneath. Getting the length, width, and height right is the difference between a cover that protects the piece and one that is basically decorative.

The three measurements you need

Length

Measure from the very end of the footrest section to the top of the headrest section. Measure along the outside of the frame, not the cushion surface. Include any fixed armrest extensions if they protrude beyond the main frame.

Most sun lounges have a consistent length on both sides, but if your model has a curved or tapered headrest section, measure the longer side.

Width

Measure the widest point of the seat from outside edge to outside edge. On most sun lounges this is the same along the whole length. On some pool loungers the shoulder section is slightly wider than the foot end. Use the larger of the two.

If your lounger has fixed side trays or armrests that extend outward, include those in the width measurement.

Height

Measure from the ground to the top of the backrest. The backrest height is what determines how tall the cover needs to be, not the seat surface height.

Most sun lounges have an adjustable back. Measure with the back in the position you normally leave it when the lounger is stored or not in use. If you always leave it flat, measure it flat. The cover fits the lounger as it sits in storage, not every possible angle.

Protecting cushions is the main reason people buy covers

Sun lounge cushions are the most expensive component to replace and the most vulnerable to weather damage. UV bleaches the fabric within a season or two. Rain soaks through cover-free cushions and leads to mould inside the foam. Salt air accelerates the deterioration of both the fabric and the foam core.

A fitted cover that goes over the whole lounger, cushions included, keeps all of that out. The 200gsm face fabric blocks UV. The waterproof undercoating stops rain from reaching the cushions. And a close fit at the base means the protection starts at ground level rather than leaving a gap at the bottom.

Material

The face fabric is 200gsm solution-dyed polyester. The pigment is added to the fibre during manufacture, which means it goes all the way through each thread rather than sitting on the surface. That is what makes it resist fading in Australian UV. Surface-dyed fabrics go patchy within a season or two in full sun.

The underside carries a flexible polyurethane waterproof coating. It stays pliable in heat and cold and will not crack at fold lines over time. The whole fabric system is UV stabilised, which extends the working life of the cover in outdoor conditions.

Caring for your sun lounge cover

Rinse the outside of the cover with a hose every month or so during the season, particularly after heavy rain or dust. Shake off leaves and debris before putting the cover on — grit can scratch the frame and cushion fabric if it gets trapped underneath.

If the cover picks up sunscreen or poolside residue on the inside, spot-clean with warm soapy water and let it dry fully before putting it back on. Do not machine wash. The agitation breaks down the waterproof coating in a single cycle.
